Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP)
Universities Receiving DURIP Grant Funding
The DOD Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP) is designed to improve the capabilities of accredited United States (U.S.) institutions of higher education to conduct research and to educate scientists and engineers in areas important to national defense, by providing funds for the acquisition of research equipment or instrumentation. The program is administered jointly by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Army Research Office, and the Office of Naval Research through a merit competition.
From 2008 through the beginning of government fiscal year 2023, the DOD DURIP program has funded 789 programs that funded between $247 million and $250 million in equipment and instrumentation acquisitions depending on which contract list you analyze.
FedInvent used data on DURIP grants from USASpending for the analysis below. We used this data because it definitively identified the contracts as DURIP grants. Over the program’s life the average funding amount was $335,719.00 including GFY 2023 and $328,879 for projects funded in GFY 2008-2022.
