American taxpayers fund the R&D that results in about 2% of all US patents granted in any week. The count of patent applications is a preview of the federal intellectual property pipeline. Here is the weekly count of taxpayer-funded of published pre-grant patent applications (PGPubs).

One more thing. The FedInvent team noticed an emerging trend among inventors receiving federal R&D funding to file for Track One accelerated examination. Most of the taxpayer-funded patent applications approved for Track One patent examination are granted before they are published as patent applications. There are more taxpayer-funded inventions percolating under the radar.
